Ink Pads

From: Glenn (Glenn.Hansen@usa.net) | Date: 2001-06-22 15:42:04 UTC-07:00
Is it really necessary to put an ink pad in the box you hide? The boxes I
have found did not have ink pads which seemed okay to me, I carry a few with
me and I chose a color that was the least common in the log. My first box
contains a ink pad but I am considering retrieveing it to carry along. Pads
are going to have a limited life span thus need to be maintained, take up
space in a box AND might be the source of odor that attracts Ricky Rodent to
have a chew. :-)

What do you think?

Glenn

PS - Should be noted in the newbie notes to always carry a ink pad when
searching.

I didn't know that was a norm. It must be only certain parts of the country. I have yet to find a box down here in Texas with an inkpad. Suppose it would be too hot.

It tends to be common practice here in New England -- in every box
we've found so far except one (and hitchhikers, of course) there has
been a stamp pad.

However, there is no requirement. 'Boxers should bring their own
anyway just in case.

As a placer of letterboxes I think that if you feel strongly that
your stamp should be a certain color (i.e. Carolina Tarheels should
be LIGHT BLUE! or NC State Wolf should be RED!) Then you should
provide that color in your letterbox. I do find that in hot and
humid climates ink pads in boxes tend to "melt" the ink runs
everywhere and gets all over the inside of the ziplock bags and the
box.

I don't typically leave an ink pad in my letterboxes. I did for one because it had to be a certain color...but otherwise I assume the person has an ink pad with them.
